Rocks, Rocks, Yoichi’s Rocks was written by Elsie Agari Harley in 2007 as part of a writing class assignment at age 83. The short story spans the years from the late 1800s in Japan to just before WW II and the forced removal of her family from their home to an internment camp. It is partly fancy and part factual of her father’s journey as a young Japanese immigrant to the US. Some of Japanese culture and all of her father’s values were brought to the US.
Elsie is a gifted poet and musician and has been a life-long accomplished pianist and teacher. This is the first known book that has been “translated” into a haiku style poem.
